Bacon Cupcakes?!?

I have a motto that I live by for creating treats for other people: Whatever the guest of honor wants, he/she gets! So, in that spirit, I made cupcakes with "Bacon" on top for Angela's birthday. Angela l-o-v-e-s loves bacon! Instead of putting real bacon pieces on top, I made little bacon strips out of fondant. These were chocolate cupcakes with cookies 'n cream frosting. Happy Baconday, I mean, Birthday Angela!

Go Celtics!

David turned 16 today! I could go on and on about how I've known him forever and I can't believe he's so old but I'll just stick to making him a cake. Anita said he loves the Boston Celtics so that's what we ran with. The cake was entirely chocolate with chocolate filling. Even the basketball on top was chocolate cake. It was so much fun to make! Besides the buttercream icing on top and boarders, everything else was fondant down to the stars hanging off the firework coming out of the basketball. Happy Birthday DD!!

It's a Boy!

Darin and Rebecca are expecting their first baby and it's a boy! We threw a surprise baby shower for Darin at work. Since he loves hunting, I made a blue camo cake that was chocolate and vanilla with chocolate filling.

Beer Cake for Dad

My dad has been brewing his own beer quite a bit lately so for his birthday, I made him a frosty beer mug cake. He asked for a yellow cake with chocolate ganache and said the decorating was up to me. Jack was so cute - he thought there was beer in the cake so he was a little nervous to try any. It took some serious convincing!

Christmas Cookies

I way over did it on Christmas cookie cutouts this year! I made 4 batches of dough which could produce enough cookies to last us until next Christmas. Luckily, we had several houses to stop at so I brought a plate or two every where we went! Here are just a few of them from this past year.

Mom's Birthday

I had a lot of fun making my mom's birthday cake this year! She LOVES frosting so her cake got a triple-thick outside layer. My favorite part is the outside of the cake with the increasingly intense shades of purple as it goes down. This was a red velvet cake with chocolate ganache and lots of vanilla buttercream. Happy Birthday Mom!

Santa Belly Cookies

Jack was Student of the Week at preschool the week of St. Nick so Jamie asked if I could help come up with a treat idea for him to bring in. Sugar cookies turned into Santa's belly were just the thing!

Jackson's First Birthday!

Cindy asked for a little cake for Jackson's first birthday that he could dig in. I made a 6 inch yellow cake all for him with buttercream frosting and fondant decorations around the outside. Cindy brought in a picture of him post-cake and he was mighty messy but twice as happy as he was dirty! Happy 1st Birthday Jackson!

Addie's Dolphin Birthday

When Addie found out her brother got special Cars cupcakes for his birthday, she wanted something made for hers as well. Good thing both kids were born in November and she didn't have long to wait! Addie picked dolphins so I made them jumping out of the waves and added a white chocolate confetti sea shell to each. Happy Birthday Addie!!

Grandma's Puppy Cake

Derek's Grandma Carol just got a new chocolate lab puppy before her birthday so Sally and I joined forces and made her an "Emma" cake!

Puppy Paw Prints

Confession: I made a birthday treat to bring into work in honor of our puppy's first birthday. Yes, I know he couldn't eat any of his own treat but he still deserved to have people celebrate on his behalf. Since he's still a little terror, I made devil's food cupcakes and used candy on top of the buttercream to make the paw. I'm sure he appreciated them :)

Kaden's 3rd Birthday!

For Kaden's 3rd Birthday he said he wanted a Disney Cars party. He got both Lightning and Mader cupcakes to bring to school for his treat! Happy Birthday Buddy!

Thanksgiving

I did this cake in the last night of class for Thanksgiving. This was a chocolate cake with raspberry filling and vanilla buttercream.

Bowling

My dear, darling, wonderful husband owes me big! He got the two of us signed up for a couples bowling league this year. I had to miss a couple weeks for a cake decorating class (Oh darn!). So, in class, I whipped up a bowling cake and brought it over to them when I was done. It's pretty plain because we only had a couple minutes to work on them at the end of class. Chocolate cake, chocolate ganache, and buttercream.

Breast Cancer Awareness Cupcakes

Every Friday in October, we did something in honor of Breast Cancer awareness in our office. I offered to make pink cupcakes for one of the treats. These were strawberry cupcakes with buttercream frosting. Each one was a little different. They were SO fun to make! I had just about every tip I own in use which made for a lot of clean up but it was worth it!

"Pie" Cupcakes

Just for fun one weekend I made "pie" cupcakes. These chocolate cupcakes had candies on top to look like cherries, apples, and blueberries with a buttercream "crust" :)

Ollie and Lilah's Baptism!

I made my biggest cake yet for Oliver and Lilah's baptism. This was a layer of chocolate cake and a layer of yellow cake with chocolate ganache in between and easily weighed 15 pounds!

Rainbow Cakes

For a co-worker's birthday, I made these rainbow cupcakes. They are yellow cake with buttercream and candy toppings. I didn't get another picture, but each cupcake had a pot of gold at one side of the rainbow thanks to some butterscotch candy!

Twin's Baby Shower!

We had a baby shower for Jamie and Bob before they welcomed their twins - one boy, one girl - this year. For the party favor, I made chocolate baby bottles for everyone. To make sure each baby was represented equally, there were 30 blue ones and 30 pink!

Jack's 4th Birthday!

Jack had a Robot/Space birthday party this year. Jamie asked me to make some cookies for the party in the theme of planets and stars. I had a ball coming up with new designs and trying out my rocket ship cookie cutter. All of the designs on the cookies were done with royal icing. I added in some chocolate spacemen for a little something extra.

Baby Shower!

We had a baby shower for a girl at work who didn't know if she was having a boy or a girl so I created butterflies and flowers in both pink and blue. The cupcakes were chocolate with vanilla buttercream frosting. The butterflies were drawn with melted chocolate. They were so fun to make!

Derek's Baseball Birthday

Derek loves all things baseball and Milwaukee Brewers so I made him a big baseball cake for his birthday. This was a chocolate cake with buttercream frosting and a big chocolate round baseball on top. I won't tell how old he turned but you can count the candles ;)
